Entertainment Excellence At E3!

Every year E3 brings us an exciting look into what is in the future for video games and this year’s E3 in particular was a very impressive. Across all the different conferences and stage demos many fantastic games were unveiled for the first time.  Co-op gameplay was a big theme this year, with many of the big games having the feature, but across all the games shown at E3 one thing was clear: we are in for some pretty super-awesome games. With dozens and dozens of titles to choose from it was hard to choose just a few of my favorite games from the show. The following were some of my personal highlights from E3, but I loved a majority on the titles that were on stage this year. So after a stellar E3 let’s jump in and I’ll recap some of my top picks!

After an overlong hiatus I have returned. Huzzah! These past few weeks the gaming world has seen several long anticipated games like Mario Kart 8The Elder Scrolls Online, Watch Dogs and Wolfenstein: The New Order finally come out and bring many new fun-filled hours. While I haven’t played any of these new titles myself, I have enjoyed some other great downloadable games. Between that and finally getting around to play the newest Atelier  game, it’s been a good time. So for this week’s edition of Unlimited Continues I will take a quick look at the games I ventured through over the past two months as well as share some of my pre-E3 thoughts.

Into The Dark Once More

There have been some absolutely tremendous RPGs released over the past few years, and while I love many of them few can reach the same heights of Dark Souls.  Dark Souls was a game that totally enraptured me and even when I wasn’t playing it the game would often be on my mind. The people of From Software created a real masterpiece and I couldn’t wait to see if they had plans to return to the world of Dark Souls. So here we are, three years later and Dark Souls II is now available for all who wish to challenge its daunting quest. Is Dark Souls II as good as the original? Yes. Quite so. Let’s venture together into the land of Drangleic and I’ll tell you why!

Favorite Five: Hand-held RPGs!

Role-playing games are among my favorite video game genres, and I particularly love classic-style, turn-based RPGs. The recently released RPG title Bravely Default harkens back to the earlier days of role-playing video games while still adding new features to the tried and true combat systems. Since I have been having quite a bit of fun with Bravely Default on my Nintendo 3DS, I thought this would be a good time to share my personal favorite hand-held RPGs. Now for this list I will not include ports or remakes, I will only have original titles made for a specific hand-held platform.  I would argue that some of the best role-playing games have been on hand-held devices, so let’s take a look at five which I think are among the best!

Unsung Games: Oni

Bungie’s Destiny is one of the big video game titles that is scheduled for this year, and for good reason, Bungie has won many fans the world over with their extremely popular Halo series so a good amount of people are eager to see what the studio’s next project will bring.  Despite being known for these first-person shooter titles, my favorite title developed by Bungie was a 2001 action game named Oni. This anime-inspired game brought a good deal of innovation by blending third-person shooting with close-quarters combat.  Oni was a released on the PC and PS2, and while it is fun on both platforms, I  believe that the PC version is superior. Indeed, Oni was my favorite PC game of that year and one of my favorite PC games in general.  Why is this my favorite Bungie game? Let’s dive-kick in and find out!

So here we go; my first five favorite games of 2013!

The Good & Bad Of 2013 (But Mostly Good!)

It’s been a good while since my last post, but thankfully Unlimited Continues is back in time to celebrate the end of 2013! It’s been a jam-packed year for video games, with all the new consoles now on the market and all the fantastic video game titles that have come out over the past few months. I have compiled my ten favorite games of this year, but we shall start that list next week. For now, I want to talk about my thoughts on the console launches, events like the VGX and just my overall thoughts on what this year has brought us.

Tremendous Tales Of Video Games!

With the recently released  Beyond: Two Souls and first episode of The Wolf Among Us bringing new interactive story-telling experiences to gamers, I thought it would be a good time to explore stories in video games.  As many of you who follow me know, story-telling in video games is something that is important to me.  It is the first thing I discuss whenever I am giving my thoughts on a game and it is one of my main reasons I enjoy video games so much.  Whether it be the classic games from years ago or more current titles like Mass Effect, the stories of video games are something I really love and I’m sure many other people do as well.  So without further ado, let’s take a look at what makes video games such a special way of telling stories.

Game Spotlight: Octodad: Dadliest Catch

With all the big titles coming to the new consoles this fall it is sometimes easy to forget the smaller, but just as fun downloadable games. One title in particular coming to the PlayStation 4 that has really caught my eye is the amusing Octodad: Dadliest Catch. Developed by Young Horses, Inc. , this quirky little game has players control a loving husband and father who has a big secret: he is actually an octopus! With that hilarious, unique premise lets take a quick look at what makes Octodad such a charming game and why it is one of my more anticipated next-generation titles.
